Why the Giants aren’t digging into the Vikings game plan for Week 1 just yet

It is always one of the first questions asked to a coach after his team qualifies for the Super Bowl — especially if that coach is a first-timer in the big game.

“When will you give the game plan to the players and start preparing for the [opponent]?’’

With two weeks between the conference championship games and the Super Bowl, it figures that having an extra week to get ready for the ultimate game would be ideal. Just think of all the innovation and gadgetry that can be conceived, the extra attention on how to attack this particular opponent can be folded into an extra few days of practice!

But that is almost never the case. Coaches generally prefer to take it easier with their team during the first week and then go through a “regular’’ week of preparation leading into the Super Bowl. The phrase “paralysis by analysis’’ sometimes comes to mind here.
