Blake Lively, Justin Baldoni’s ‘It Ends With Us’ sequel up in the air amid rumored feud
Apparently, it could end after one movie.
The rumored feud between “It Ends With Us” stars Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni has left plans for a possible sequel up in the air, according to a Variety report published Tuesday.
“This is uncharted territory, and nobody has any idea of what a sequel could look like,” a source who is “familiar with the situation” said to the outlet.
“There’s probably no world where these two will work together again,” they added of Lively, 37, and Baldoni, 40.
Multiple sources confirmed to Variety that “the bad blood” between the stars “is very real and the relationship may not be salvageable.”
The Post has not heard back from reps for Lively or Baldoni.
The pair played the lead roles in the film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s best-selling book. Baldoni directed the project and produced it via his company, Wayfarer Studios.
Lively was also a producer on the movie.
Hoover, 44, wrote a sequel to “It Ends With Us” called “It Starts With Us” that continues the story of Lively’s character, Lily Bloom.
Baldoni’s character, Ryle Kincaid, has a small role in the sequel — but as Variety pointed out, Baldoni owns the rights to both of Hoover’s books, which would make it difficult for Lively to take on the sequel without his involvement.
Despite their rumored feud, Baldoni said at the film’s New York premiere earlier this month that he thinks Lively would be better suited to adapt “It Starts With Us.”
“I think that there are better people for that one,” he told “Entertainment Tonight”. “I think Blake Lively’s ready to direct, that’s what I think.”
According to Variety, entertainment industry sources said that the “It Ends With Us” sequel would ideally come out within the next two to three years “to sustain audience interest.”
The rumors about Lively and Baldoni’s feud began after they didn’t do any press together. They also watched the movie separately at the New York premiere on Aug. 6.
Baldoni has since hired a crisis public-relations manager while Lively is under fire for her “tone deaf” interview answers about the domestic violence theme of the film.
It’s been speculated that Lively and Baldoni were at odds over the final cut of the movie, which was reportedly the one that Lively favored.
“There were two edits and the studio went with a more feminine edit,” a studio insider told Page Six.
In one red carpet interview, Lively revealed that her husband, Ryan Reynolds, wrote the iconic rooftop scene, where Lively and Baldoni’s characters, Lily and Ryle, meet for the first time.
But that was allegedly news to Baldoni, according to Variety’s sources, who said the “Jane the Virgin” alum thought Lively “ad libbed” that scene.
Sources previously clarified to The Hollywood Reporter that Reynolds, 47, wrote “a large chunk,” but not the entire scene.
“It Ends With Us,” while being plagued with rumors of behind-the-scenes cast drama, has still been a huge success.
It has grossed over $200 million at the worldwide box office, but because of the Lively-Baldoni drama, that might not be enough to guarantee a sequel.
